Obtained $2.5 million CARES Act for Jail renovations & upgrades to the visitation area, medical ventilation system, new inmate classrooms & video courtrooms

New Inmate Classification System, now used as a model for all Indiana county jails by the State Sheriff Assoc.

Improved and regular meetings and communication with Judges, Court staff, prosecutor and defense attorneys

Installed new inmate kiosks, for commissary and video visitations

CARES Act upgrades to the attorney visitation area resulting in 3x’s attorney & professional visit rooms, including new visitation booths with COVID safety improvements

Secured outside funding for new employee break rooms in the secured and unsecured areas of Jail

New secured enclosure of Jail lobby and new magnetometer

New security upgrades including, key card entry and camera upgrades in Jail

Initiated new inmate GED program

Began inmate restaurant skills training certificate program

3 year partnership with the 525 Foundation battling abuse of prescription medications in our community

Redman took the lead in implementing “Bigs with Badges” program for Big Brothers/ Big Sisters

Redman & team donned kilts in 2019 for “Men in Kilts” to raise funds for local Ronald McDonald House

Team and staff yearly participates in Polar Plunge raising funds for Special Olympics

Redman & team participated in Charles Black Center after-school program and community events

Yearly donation and delivery of holiday meals to needy of our community

Yearly collection for YWCA Women’s Shelter and Food Bank of Northern Indiana

Redman & team raised money for Youth Service Bureau “Over the Edge”

Additional fund raising for RiverBend Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, Stop the Traffic and others

Support of “Stop Means Stop”, 525 & DEA “Pill Drop” day, Mama’s Against Violence, St. Joseph County 4-H Fair, Get Wet for a Vet, Gentlemen & Scholars, 100 Black Men of Greater Michiana, La Casa de Amistad, etc.

Partnership with Indiana Governor’s office to install one of first Narcan (naloxone) vending machines in the state in the Jail

Bill Redman has taken non-traditional Sheriff approach and regularly spoken out and taken leadership roles on issues outside of law enforcement that important to our community

Redman & team strive for timely release of information & transparency to community in all incidents involving police officers and jail staff

Is committed to providing mental health and addiction services to all inmates
